Success for Atmo's films in Venice

Both Videocracy and Metropia made a strong impact during the international film festival in Venice.

When Videocracy premiered on Sept 4, thousands waited in line and an extra screening had to be arranged. Additionally, some 30,000 people around Italy watched Erik Gandini’s documentary during the weekend, pushing Videocracy to number 4 on the Italian box office chart. Videocracy was not only the talk of the festival, but rather the talk of the nation.

Videocracy will be screened at the Toronto Film Festival in mid-September.

Also Metropia was received with applause and intense interest by audience and press at the screenings. Actors Vincent Gallo and Stellan Skarsg?d, together with director Tarik Saleh, gave hundreds of interviews during two busy days. On Sept. 10, Metropia was honored with The Future Film Digital Award. Previous winners include films by Brian De Palma, Tim Burton and Michael Mann.

Next stop for Metropia will be The Strasbourg Fantastic Film Festival, followed by The International Fantastic Film in Sitges, Spain, and in October The London Film Festival where it is nominated for The Sutherland Trophy.

PS. Recently, Variety covered the Atmo breakthrough:

Atmo, the fiercely independent shingle based in Sweden, may be small but its size is no obstacle in getting films and TV series in front of auds.
